Ordered a load (4) of new films last night to watch when I finally get my new TV; Batoru rowaiaru/Battle Royal namely because I feel I should've seen it, Azumi 2 because the original is kickass, Warriors of Heaven and Earth and Romeo Must Die which is another film I've been told I should see and have never got round to.
It's no coincidence that 2 of the above feature Chiaki Kuriyama, her off of Kill Bill Vol 1 with the ball & chain. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that whatever-that-martial-art-is-with-the-chain-and-poi-esque-moves was pretty much a one off for KB and it's annoying the hell out of me that I can't remember its proper name. |

Right, I've decided I'm going to do most -> all christmas shopping online, and as late as possible (the latter bit was more happenstance than decision).
As such, can people recommend good ecommerce sites for me to look at and blankly realise that I don't know the desires of any of my close friends or family? Thus far my list is:

As electrodruid has mentioned, we played the last game of 137 (a game using the Primetime Adventures system) last night. Overall the players seem to have fairly mixed views about the game, so I thought I'd spew out a review from my POV.

As other people have said, it's getting to that time of year where we all dress stupidly and say nonsensical words as we squack each other with latex. Me? I'm enthused to the max, I'm thoroughly enjoying LT at the moment (as I have been for the last two years.... and pretty much every year before that).
My issue comes with other people, particularly those who are in my group or who I like playing with, and the opinion of "LT is Shit". When asked why they think so, the phrases "Old Boys Club" (courtesy of crm), "Plot is Shit" (electrodruid) and "I just can't be arsed any more" (numerous people) seem to the most common reasons. Now, I'm an "LT Fanboy", or at least as near to one as you can get these days, and stuff like this just stresses me out, it's people who have formed their opinions from a few bad experiences and refuse to try anything to different to change it, it's like Pagga has shat in the heads of my friends. For each of these points I'd say:
"Old Boys Club": Bollocks. So someone who is an average rank 1 military spod in a faction never rises up the ranks. There's a suprise. Yes you do have to go out and get noticed, there's three people giving rank out to ~300 other people. Ritual slots etc have to be ASKED FOR, and you need to have plans and actually do some work to make sure they go off successfully. The old saying that "The most dangerous thing in the LT is a Rank 1 17pter" may not be entirely true (I'd add "with roleplaying ability and self-confidence") but it's pretty damn close.
"Plot is Shit": OK, there will always be shit plots out there, there will be plot teams whose styles you don't like but to write off every single type of plot is just plain stupid, if you don't want plot of any type is stupid. That's what LT is there for, go play Maelstrom if you want to dodge NPCs. If you want things to actually talk about and do at LT then you need to at least be vaguely interested in plot, otherwise, once I've heard your backstory and recent, non-gameworld changing, downtime episodes I've got nothing else of interest to say.
"I can't be arsed": Here's the killer, the straight slide into catch 22/vicious circlism. You can't be arsed to rp? Why show up? If you're not going to be bothered to do stuff, including (see above) chasing plot, you aren't going to have fun (in the majority of cases). LT has 4 million (figure maybe exaggerated) players and probably nearly 1000 people who do the main 4 and sanctioneds, unless you go out and track plot down, carve a niche for yourself and have aims/goals, you aren't going to achieve anything except "Friday: Killed 1 Zombie in Monster Encounter #3424342". If you can be arsed, then you find things to do, you find plot you like or you find people to play with that you enjoy, if you go with no other intention than to see OOC mates then imnsho you should be going to a pub meet because you're paying 50 quid for the priviledge of not having fun.
Anyway, [/rant], I'm not *that* pissed off with the people who come out with these comments, it's just when there's people there who have been in similar situations, have been playing the system for a lot longer (I'm on 9 years this year) and are still having bucketloads of fun and these people get ignored because otherwise it would break the "I think LT is shit so LT is going to be shit" cycle. I know LT have lost a lot of trust over the years, but there is still a crapload of fun to be had and if other people don't want it then I'll have it :D.

DJ Yoda was cool on saturday, and by cool I mean totally sweet. I was vaguely worried that the "Audio Visual Set" was going to consist of bad music videos played during a normal Yoda set. Luckily, I was proved wrong, what was actually done was "Yoda goes to the movies" were almost all the scratching was accompanied by an appropriate film clip (everything from Ferris Bueller to Yoda (in starwars) breakdancing. Probably the highlight was Song 2 by Blur to the images of the Hulk beating the crap out of tanks.
In summary, although it may not be the future of Disc Jockeying as we know it, it probably is the future for Yoda, provided he can keep the AV samples flowing.

'spose I should update properly at some point but really cba.
Weekend was enjoyable (see: evil), and just because I'm not gonna miss a chance to LJ Tag spam, on saturday night drinks were had with: deadmandancing, rimmel5622, evilgood, Pete-no-lj, taffdan, electrodruid, fuseblues and purplemaurader.
Am still wondering why I am so enthused by LT when everyone else consistently poops on its head.
Have been wh0ring tech the last couple of weeks, bought myself a car stereo that plays USB sticks, SD Cards and MP3 CDs, and is also Ogg compatible which gave psr ++smug, also got a mini-sd for my phone (mainly to get rid of the awful midi alarm) and a DivX player that plays every format under the sun.
This weekend is deadmandancing's birthday, which should be pleasant if a little hectic and unorganised :P.

So, despite my attempts yesterday to "ignore it and hope it goes away", my left eye has surpassed the swollenness of yesterday morning and has now decided to add "red and sore" to the mixture too. Have booked an appointment for tomorrow to go see the Dr., here's hoping I don't go blind before then.
